The Sporting Post is sad to report that SA Jockey Academy apprentice Tyrell Maharaj passed away tragically in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.
The 19 year old rode his only career winner on Moon Rock for Paul Reeves at Kenilworth in July.
Maharaj, with his colleague Cole Dicken, flew to the UK in March this year to spend 4 weeks at the British Racing School to complete the International Apprentice Course in Newmarket.
Our condolences go out to his family and friends.
