SA20 Auction – All You Need To Know!

Tristan Stubbs and Temba Bavuma made headlines

Everything you need to know after the SA20 auction. Full squads, most expensive players, those who missed out and more!

Tristan Stubbs and Temba Bavuma were the headline makers at the inaugural SA20 Auction, albeit for different reasons. Stubbs was sold to the Sunrisers Eastern Cape for a whopping R9.2 million while Bavuma – South Africa’s white-ball skipper- went unsold at a base price of R850 000.

Below we’ll take a look at each of the squads, the most expensive players, the biggest stars to miss out and more!

SA20 – Most expensive players

Interestingly, the 10 most expensive players sold at the SA20 auction were all South African. Tristan Stubbs fetched the highest price with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape forking out R9.2 million for the 22-year-old.

The sale of Donavon Ferreira was one of the bigger stories on the day. The 24-year-old was eventually snapped up by the Joburg Super Kings for R5.5 million. This came after the Paarl Royals and Pretoria Capitals tried to outbid the Joburg franchise, but had to pull out owing to rapidly dwindling purses. Had either franchise landed Ferreira at such a high price, they would not have been able to fill their 17-man squads with their remaining purses.

The most expensive players snapped up at the auction were:

Tristan Stubbs – R9.2 million (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Rilee Rossouw – R6.9 million (Pretoria Capitals)

Marco Jansen – R6.1 million (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Wayne Parnell – R5.6 million (Pretoria Capitals)

Donavon Ferreira – R5.5 million (Joburg Super Kings)

Sisanda Magala – R5.4 million (Sunrisers Eastern Cape)

Heinrich Klassen – R4.5 million (Durban Super Giants)

Reeza Hendricks – R4.5 million (Joburg Super Kings)

Tabraiz Shamsi – R4.3 million (Paarl Royals)

Dwaine Pretorius – R4.1 million (Durban Super Giants)

Unsold Stars

When it comes to unsold players, Temba Bavuma was the biggest newsmaker. South Africa’s white-ball skipper garnered no interest from the six franchises with his base price of R850 000.

In another surprise, Protea all-rounder Andile Phelukwayo also went unsold. The Hollywoodbets Dolphins man was passed over with an R850 000 base price.

Some other notable players who went unsold include Ross Taylor, Farhaan Behardein, Roston Chase, Dinesh Chandimal, Carlos Brathwaite, Lewis Gregory and Unmukt Chand.
