Sihle ‘Prince’ Cele – suspended

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Cape Town on 22 November 2016, Jockey Sihle Cele, the rider of PURPLE TRACTOR, was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.7.

This arose as he failed to ensure that he was sufficiently clear when he shifted inwards at about the 1200m, which resulted in ALWAYS IN CHARGE (A Marcus) being forced to ease for a number of strides in Race 6 at Kenilworth Racecourse on 19 November 2016.

Jockey Cele pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty of the charge.

After considering all the mitigating factors, the Board suspended him from riding in races for a period of 7 days.

Jockey Cele was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
