Royals Step Out Today – One Stripe To Be King!

First due off @ 12h25 - carryover Pick 6 at 14h15

A exciting racing programme launches the opening weekend of 2025, with the 164th renewal of the L’Ormarins King’s Plate heading a bumper card at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth today.

There are two Grade 1 races on this nine-race programme – the L’Ormarins King’s Plate and the Cartier Paddock Stakes.

There is a R1 million Pick 6 carryover with a likely pool of R5 million.

One Stripe from the Vaughan Marshall stable takes his place in the Gr1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate and he is the best bet on the card.

He was an impressive winner in the Hollywoodbets Gr1 Cape Guineas last time.

Despite hanging outwards in the closing stages, he won going away. There is likely to be a decent pace in this contest which should suit him well.

With 55kgs on his back, he will be running on and can notch up his sixth and peak career victory today.

Trainer Justin Snaith sends out Little Suzie in the Cartier Gr1 Paddock Stakes.

She was not disgraced when third in the World Sports Betting Gr1 Cape Fillies Guineas last time.

She was slow into stride, but the way she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. Her mother, Oh Susanna won this race as a 3yo in 2018 and defended her title the next year.

The daughter of Trippi should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and it is encouraging that JP van der Merwe steps back into the saddle.

She has plenty of scope and may be the one to cause the upset.
