Rouvaun Says Thank-You

The long road to recovery continues

It will be four months on 9 July since life changed inexorably for popular Cape racecaller Rouvaun Smit and his family.

Since his injury and subsequent operation, Rouvaun has fought back and is currently undergoing intensive therapy to teach him to walk again.

The racing industry has come out in support via various initiatives, the latest being a golf day at Atlantic Beach.

Rouvaun has requested that we publish the note below.

Dear fellow racing enthusiasts

I want to reach out and personally thank everyone for their love, care, and support by way of get-well messages, in-person visits, and for their unselfish assistance in raising funds for me.

Life throws one curved balls that we don’t always expect or see coming, and it is heartwarming to see kindness from all spheres of the racing industry.

My family and I would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who was involved in the recent Golf Day fundraiser. From the organizers to the sponsors, to those who played on the day. A very big thank you to each and every one of you!

Not forgetting the stallion services that were auctioned at the end of last Thursday’s KZN Yearling Sale. A special word of thanks to the stallion syndicates, BSA, and those who purchased the services. I wish you all champions.

These past four months have not been easy, but I’m working hard towards getting back into the commentary box sooner rather than later.

Every ounce of every contribution has played a part in aiding my recovery. Thank you all for standing by me and contributing – I am humbled and extremely grateful, and I say a sincere thanks to you all. You have all made a difference in my and my family’s life at this time.

I feel truly blessed by your kindness and generosity.

Every gesture is much appreciated.

May God richly bless you.

Rouvaun Smit
