Rockie Reef Goes To A 102

How the handicapper's saw the weekend features

Rockie Reef has had her merit rating raised from 92 to 102 after winning the Gr3 Flamboyant Stakes over 1600m on a wet Hollywoodbets Greyville racecourse on 1 January.

The Handicappers were of the opinion that 2nd placed LADY OF POWER, 4th placed FORESHORE and 5th placed CAPETOWN BEAUTY made for suitable line horses and accordingly, their ratings remained unchanged on 105,97 and 91 respectively.

The only other runner aside from the winner to receive a ratings increase was PIECE BY PIECE, who was increased from 79 to 84.

PIECE BY PIECE was rated to run last in this event but finished in 6th position producing a performance higher than her current adjusted figure of 84.

Only one horse received a drop in rating, ORIENTAL BOUQUET was dropped from 99 to 94 after failing to confirm her early two-year-old promise.

Christmas Handicap (Listed)

FORMAGEAR saw his rating adjusted from 100 to 103 after landing the Christmas Handicap (Listed) over 1600m on a wet Hollywoodbets Greyville racecourse on Monday.

IMILENZEYOKUDUDUMA and Cape Eagle were deemed to make for suitable line horses, which leaves them on ratings of 101 and 103 respectively.

Two horses received a 1-pound drop each in this event, QUEUE WING and BELLA SICCOME were dropped from 96 to 95 and 89 to 88 respectively.

War Of Athena Handicap (Listed) formerly the Jacaranda Handicap (Listed)

JULIET TANGO had her rating increased from 92 to 98 after fluently winning the War Of Athena Handicap (Listed) at the Turffontein Standside track over 1800m on Saturday.

The Handicappers were of the opinion that both BONETE and PERFECT WITNESS both made for suitable line horses, their ratings remain unchanged on 93 and 105 respectively.

The runner-up BELLEVARDE received an increase of 2 pounds from 88 to 90.

SAY YES received a 2 pounds drop from 95 to 93, Crimson Princess also received 2 pounds drop from 97 to 95 while KWAZZI’S LADY received a pound drop from 87 to 86.
