River Jetez runs in G1 Beverly D Stakes

River Jetez, a R230 000 purchase at the 2005 National 2yo Sale, lines up in Saturday’s G1 Beverly D Stakes.  Run over 1900 metres  at Arlington, the race is a turf event for fillies and mares.

River Jetez, a former winner of the J&B Met, will be saddled by trainer Mike de Kock, and will be partnered by the outstanding Belgium rider, Christophe Soumillon. The mare, now eight, is coming off a good run in the G1 Falmouth Stakes, a prep for Saturday’s big race, where she ran 3.5 lengths off the winner, Timepiece.

De Kock is confident off a good run by the mare, saying,”River Jetez is very well and we have high hopes.” De Kock previously saddled the South African bred mare, Irridescence, to finish second in the race in
Interestingly enough, Irridescence, like River Jetez is a former graduate of the National 2YO Sale, as she sold for R160 000 in 2003.
River Jetez, who was bred by the Out of Africa Stud, is owned by Mr and Mrs Amm, in partnership with Marsh Shirtliff. To date, the bay mare has earned over R10 million, an amount she could substantially on Saturday.
This year, River Jetez has won the G2 Balanchine Stakes and been second in both the G1 Dubai Duty Free and G1 Singapore Airlines International Cup.

The Beverly D Stakes is one the US’s most prestigious races for fillies and mares. It was previously won by the South African bred mare, Crimson Palace, in 2004.
