RIP: Paddy Wilson

Paddy Wilson

The late Paddy Wilson

Paddy Wilson, former Chairman of Mobil International, the Board of Executors and Cape Racing, passed away peacefully aged 85 in Cape Town last Monday.

He is survived by his wife Yvonne and two sons. Paddy was a much loved figure in racing, and was a loyal supporter of the Kannemeyer stable over the years. Dean Kannemeyer commented that, “Paddy was a wonderful owner and very close friend – he owned many decent horses over the years and it was an honour to train for him”.

Paddy steered Cape Racing through the difficult times when horseracing had a punishing tax rate, which forced the board to sell assets in order to survive. He will be fondly remembered by all his friends and partners in the industry.

A memorial service was held on Saturday 19th October. This was followed by a wake to honour and celebrate his life, held at The Kelvin Grove Club in Newlands.
