In-form Cape rider Richard Fourie edged into ninth position on the SA National jockey log after booting home three winners on the card – including a rare feat of riding the Bipot – at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Fourie is now on 65 winners for the season with a 17% win strike-rate. His three winners, Carioca (Joey Ramsden), Wings Of Honor (Glen Kotzen) and King Of Aces (Piet Steyn), were all for different yards and gave ample indication of this outstanding rider’s wide range of talents.
The Bipot requires punters to select first or second in the designated six legs. Fourie had to endure four frustrating seconds, with a R10 straight line of his mounts delivering a nice return of R1049.
There is no historical record of any jockeys having achieved a similar feat in the Bipot. This exotic was reintroduced in November 2013. It was run as the Quinpot over five legs in the Western Cape in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
An avid fisherman, Melkbosstrand resident Richard Fourie balances family and professional life and seldom travels to away centres.
