Candice Bass-Robinson strengthened her already substantial Cape Summer season prospects, when the handsome chestnut Resonate produced a career peak performance to win the R175 000 Listed Southeaster sprint at a vibrant Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday.
The return of racing to cape Town’s premier Southern Suburbs venue produced its fair share of tricky results, but after some top-class work during the week, it was no surprise to see Resonate register his second stakes success.
The talented son of Twice Over was earmarked for better early on and produced a sustained finish at 11-2 under regular pilot Aldo Domeyer to beat the classy Gimme A Prince (6-1) by a half length in a time of 64.41 secs.
Surjay (11-2) ran his usual game-race to plug on for third ahead of the winner’s stablemate and quartet kicker Mr Cobbs (50-1) in fourth. The weak-favourite Future Prince (5-1) appeared to be run.
Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Resonate is a 4yo gelded son by Twice Over (Observatory) out of the well-performed Doowaley mare Rei Rei, a four time winner, who raced in the care of veteran Stan Elley.
Resonate has won 5 races with 5 places from 13 starts for stakes of R457475.
The Pick 6 continued to gain serious momentum after this result.
