The Normandy Stud-bred Aquanaut, a R30 000 purchase, was arguably one of our greatest stayers.
He was from the first crop of Foveros, one of the all-time great sires to have stood in this country.
Foveros produced big-race winners over all distances and Aquanaut was to be his flag-bearer in the staying ranks.
Aquanaut`s mother Aquilegia was by reputable French sire Alyscamps and although she was no great shakes as a racehorse, she turned out to be a useful broodmare
Trained by the late Mark Watters, Aquanaut won his debut in early 1986 and landed 6 victories from his first 9 starts.
