Red Saxon – Durban Jockey Gets Big Chance

Rachel Venniker gets a solid replacement

Trainer Joey Soma has announced that Durban-based Gr1 winning jockey Serino Moodley will partner smart 3yo Red Saxon in Saturday’s R5 million Gr1 Hollywoodbets Durban July.

Leading apprentice Rachel Venniker was scheduled to make history as the first female rider to compete in the great race but was injured in a race-riding accident on Monday.

Joey Soma told the Sporting Post that Winning Form-sponsored Serino Moodley met their original criteria of  experience of the Hollywoodbets Greyville track.

“Many jockeys called for the ride. At the end of the day it was about Serino’s capabilities and experience. On any other day, we could have chosen any one of the riders who called. For now, Serino was already at work on Red Saxon today (Tuesday) and it is all systems go. We wish Rachel a speedy recovery and hope to see her at the races on Saturday!” he added.

If Serino Moodley were to win the Hollywoodbets Durban July, he would become the first Indian rider in history to lift the prestigious trophy.
