Rafeef Son To Be Syndicated – Stands At Winterbach Stud

Gr1 winning sprinter to be syndicated

South Africa’s highest-rated sprinter at his peak, the 2022 Gr1 Computaform Sprint winner Master Archie becomes the first son of Ridgemont’s boom Redoute’s Choice stallion Rafeef at stud as he takes up duties for the new season at the magnificent Winterbach Stud in Stellenbosch.

Started in 2011 by multiple Equus Award-winning breeder Hendrik Winterbach Snr, the beautiful farm is nestled between all the world renowned wine farms and a stone’s throw from champion neighbour Avontuur.

He will stand for an opening fee to outside shareholders of R5 000 nomination plus R10 000 live foal, and certainly adds a new dimension to the Cape stallion ranks.

He was a winner 7 of his 16 starts, before being scratched in the week leading up to defence of his Gr1 Computaform Sprint title with a bruised off-fore foot. The 4yo retired with a 128 rating and stakes earnings of over R1,2 million.

Bred by a partnership of Vasan Harry, Sean Hanna and Adam Azzie, Master Archie is out of the eight-time winning Var mare, La Volta.

His sire Rafeef was a superb racehorse, who won six of ten starts including the 2017 Gr1 Computaform Sprint and Gr2 Hawaii Stakes.

In landing the Computaform Sprint, Rafeef accounted for a pair of Equus Champions in Talktothestars and Carry On Alice, while the bay downed the likes of champions Will Pays, French Navy and Talktothestars when he won the Hawaii Stakes that same year.

The blue-blooded Rafeef, a full-brother to Equus Champion and Gr1 SA Nursery winner Mustaaqeem, is one of more than 170 stakes winners sired by multiple champion Australian sire Redoute’s Choice, and he is out of former South African Horse Of The Year National Colour.

A SA Champion Freshman sire, the Ridgemont-based Rafeef has sired 12 stakes winners and has proven a highly sought after stallion.

The handsome grey Master Archie will be syndicated, with 55 shares being issued at R60 000 plus vat per share.
