Kempton has taken a leaf out of the Premier League’s book after unveiling a groundbreaking initiative for racegoers attending the 32Red King George meeting on Boxing Day.
Manchester City and Tottenham have both developed a Tunnel Club hospitality area for fans to see the players arrive and line up before the match.
Racing’s equivalent is the weighing room, vibrant before racing with trainers and jockeys preparing for their races, and at Kempton nex Wednesday 100 racegoers booked to get this view for the first time at the Sunbury course.
The Kauto Star Bar is already a dedicated enclosure in the Clubhouse building that also houses annual members and hospitality boxes, but another area, adjoining the weighing room, will offer a unique insight into the build-up to the big races.
Kempton’s general manager Steve Parlett said: “These racegoers will be able to get up close and watch preparations for the winter festival features, which include three Grade 1 races in the King George VI and Kauto Star chases and Christmas Hurdle.
“There will be no distraction for anyone in the weighing room as the window is blacked out on their side but racegoers can see in.”
The £100 tickets were quickly snapped up and are £25 more expensive than Premier Enclosure tickets which, if coupled with reserve seating, cost £75.
