KZN – RA Chairman Explains

Grant directed at owners in Phumelela regions

The absence of KwaZulu-Natal horses in a subsidy for horses in training announced by the Racing Association on Friday has been explained.

Th subsidy applies to horses in training in all provinces, bar KZN.

Brian Riley explains the decision to omit KZN

Racing Association Acting Chairman Brian Riley explained to the Sporting Post that the RA recently put together a support package on stakes for all races operated by Phumelela on behalf of owners.

“Gold Circle did something similar for their owners. This was because our income is generated mainly from the nominations and declarations from races operated by Phumelela as well as a small amount from membership fees. We receive nothing from the membership fees or nominations and declarations in KZN, as that goes directly to Gold Circle. Therefore as with the stakes support our grant has been directed at the same owners.”
