Lim's Dashing looks good in race 4

Lim’s Dashing looks good in race 4

Once again the Friday meeting does look an entrée to the Gr1 Patron’s Bowl on Sunday but as always, plenty on offer for punters.

And it starts early with a couple of weak maidens in race 2 and 4 respectively, where there looks only a few serious winning hopes suggesting we can find the winner.

In race 2 on the card only three horses should be considered on race form with CHANBAI MOUTAIN, LIGHTNING FAST, SATELLITE MAN all coming off last start placings.

Of those, SATELLITE MAN also has some strong trial form under his belt and could be the one to beat.

frontad-singapore-airlines-cup_140x120In saying that, LIGHTNING FAST had plenty of support on his debut and can win while LIM’S RACER comes under consideration with a nice trial under her belt and as a 2YO, a winnable lightweight. Likewise, MYSTIC MASTER comes into serious consideration in race 4 with 49.5kg under the Restricted Maiden conditions and can win although LIM’S DASHING does look the horse to beat after his very good debut behind Macarthur.

Friday 17 June

Best Bets: (LIM’S DASHING race 4 win), (PACHELBEL’S CANON race 5, value) and SAND BANK race 9, value).

Race 1

Selections; 1 DRAGON KING – 6 CAPTAIN MCCAW – 8 TIM – 4 REAL HERO
Too many horses that are in form but may have forgotten how to win in this race to be confident but a couple of HW Tan horses – DRAGON KING and REAL HERO – dropping to their recent winning Class come under notice. DRAGON KING also gets Dan Beasley back on and that combination from gate 1 would be confident of a strong showing. Conversely, REAL HERO has gate 9 to contend with so luck will be required with a 4kg claimer in Nurshahril up. Laurie Laxon has a couple of non-winners in CAPTAIN MCCAW and TIM who both look a show but are a risk given lack of recent winning form although CAPTAIN MCCAW went very close last start and TIM gets blinkers which should see improvement. In no particular order, DREAMCATCHER, MILLION ROUND and SATELLITE STAR can all win without surprising.

1 DRAGON KING *** Nothing last start but drop to recent winning company with Beasley up suggests he goes close. 5.00
2 DREAMCATCHER *** Just missed last start but has been over a year since last win so take on trust. 6.00
3 QUETZAL ** Resuming. Maiden who has some ability but best efforts are over longer. 12
4 REAL HERO *** Another whose recent form looks only fair but drop to winning Class has him under notice. 12
5 SCARLET STAR ** Placed at long odds in similar affair last start and have to follow. 12
6 CAPTAIN MCCAW *** Hasn’t won for over two years but went close last start and must be respected, 5.00
7 EXCITING PROSPECT ** Battled on OK in similar affair last start and can include in exotics. 12
8 TIM *** Has been costly for followers but worth another look with blinkers back on. 12
9 MILLION ROUND *** Form better than it reads and could run a cheeky race at odds. 20
10 NUMERO UNO * Maiden who is easier to ignore from the wide alley. 50
11 RUN CHEETAH RUN * Struggled from the wide gate last start and expect much the same. 20
12 SATELLITE STAR *** Has excuses not to go closer when placing last start for new trainer and can show up here. 5.00
13 ANAK PENANG ** Maiden who is more than capable of a cheeky run. 10
14 DASHING ** Nothing last start over the mile but gets blinkers back in trip so could improve. 20

Race 2

Selections; 4 SATELLITE MAN – 9 LIM’S RACER – 3 LIGHTNING FAST – 1 CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN
An odd race where it may be hard for punters to split four horses that can win with the other six runners having no hope whatsoever. So exotics would come into play and two runners coming off good trials in SATELLITE MAN and LIM’S RACER could be a good place to start. SATELLITE MAN in particular has been freshened with some very nice trials and his most recent effort suggests he is primed to win this. LIM’S RACER also comes off a nice trial in good company and given her status as a 2YO filly, she carries Harry Kassim at 48kg and little else. The other two in the mix are LIGHTNING FAST who was heavily supported when placing on debut and expect much the same again while connections of CHANGHAI MOUNTAIN will be hoping he can turn some solid form into a win after changing stables with a 4kg claimer onboard for this.

1 CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN *** Honest and gets change of stable and 4kg claimer to get a result. 6.00
2 SGFIFTY * Gets slight gear change but needs more than that. 200
3 LIGHTNING FAST *** Came in for very heavy support when placing on debut and could be hard to beat with that effort under his belt. 2.50
4 SATELLITE MAN *** Freshened with some very good trials and can win. 2.50
5 MS KIDMAN * No. 200
6 BRILLIANT STAR * Struggling. 200
7 PHANFONE * Gets tongue-tie after very ordinary debut and easier to ignore. 200
8 DICAPRIO * Not on exposed trial form. 50
9 LIM’S RACER *** Pay to put a line through debut as recent trial very good and can win with the featherweight. 3.50
10 QUEEN ROULETTE * No. 200

Race 3

Selections; 3 SUN PIONEER – 6 WONDERFUL – 2 SATELLITE BOY – 5 RIVER OF GOLD
An extremely strong Class 4 Poly sprint with too many horses in form – including three last start winners – to be confident. In fact the field has that much depth that the three horses in winning form – POWER LIN, RIVER OF GOLD and SILK ROUTE – didn’t mange to get into our top three selections although POWER LIN and RIVER OF GOLD just won too well in similar affairs to this not to be in the mix. But SUN PIONEER looks very well placed in Class 4 after a good run of form in better company. The 1100m also suits and he could be a solid each-way hope from gate 4 with B Woodworth to ride. WONDERFUL is in very honest form and is also the beneficiary of a good gate (1) with John Powell up after changing stables to Shane Baertschiger. Of the rest, SATELLITE BOY comes into this off a very nice trial so has to be considered and the likes of GOLDEN CASINO and KISS ME could be the value options.

1 POWER LIN *** Drawn awkwardly but won too well last start in similar affair not to go close again. 6.00
2 SATELLITE BOY *** Issues last start (jockey reported respiratory noises) and subsequent nice trial has him under notice. 8.00
3 SUN PIONEER *** Will find this company to his liking and looks ready to win. 6.00
4 GOLDEN CASINO *** Most recent win was over a mile but showed more than enough last start over 1000m to give this a shake. 12
5 RIVER OF GOLD *** Came in for support when winning well in similar affair last start and must be respected. 5.00
6 WONDERFUL *** Yet to put in a bad effort without winning but gets his chance here on the back of a very nice trial. 4.00
7 COURT CASE ** Did it tough wide last start and will get no favours here from gate 12. 20
8 KISS ME *** Each-way all the way with value the key. 20
9 SUPER BRILLIANT ** In form and will be working into a podium finish late. 12
10 TOP GUN * Needs to lift on two runs this campaign. 100
11 SILK ROUTE ** Solid when breaking maiden status last start but has struck a strong Class 4 field. 12
12 LADY ROULETTE ** Form better than it reads and could add plenty of value to skinny end of exotics. 33
13 MR WHITAKER ** Hard to fault form but a year between wins is a concern and this field is strong. 12
14 RIKIOH ** Form looks hopeless but will very much appreciate being back on the Poly. 33

Race 4

Selections; 5 LIM’S DASHING – 10 MYSTIC MASTER – 6 ROCK EAGLE – 1 PENTAGON
Another maiden where there looks only four horses with winning hopes and eight with none. Again a 2YO looks a huge show with no weight and MYSTIC MASTER gets his chance. The Australian-bred colt has placed at all three starts in juvenile company and given the weight pull against the 3YO’s here, he must be hard to beat with Nunes up. In saying that, the connections of LIM’S DASHING would be very confident of their chances. He just missed on debut behind Macarthur and given that form has more than held up with a win in the latest Juvenile race, he looks the one to be on. Or forecast/quinella the pair. ROCK EAGLE one to watch on debut with some good trials under belt while PENTAGON looks the bolter given what he showed last start and may spring a surprise at odds.

1 PENTAGON *** Led them up before placing at odds on the turf last start and could be hard to run down. 12
2 D’GREAT WORLD * Easier to ignore. 100
3 CAMERA STELLATA * Battled on OK last start similar affair and can include in exotics. 33
4 RED JEWEL * Resuming for new stables sans blinkers and could run a cheeky race at odds. 33
5 LIM’S DASHING *** Just missed behind a nice type in Macarthur on debut and very hard to beat on that effort. 2.20
6 ROCK EAGLE *** Won trial in NZ and trial in Singapore. Gets top rider and should debut well. Watch for support. 6.00
7 GOLDEN SAND * Freshened after two moderate efforts and recent trial win was in slow time so take on trust. 50
8 BOHEMIAN * Prefer others on exposed trial form. 100
9 SKYHAWK * No. 100
10 MYSTIC MASTER *** Has looked the goods at three runs in juvenile company and hard to beat with no weight. 2.20
11 SMART MASTER * No. 100
12 KUBERA’S CHIEF * Prefer most others. 100

Race 5

Selections; 1 PACHELBEL’S CANON – 5 THE GENERAL – 3 GHOST – 6 ROYAL RULER
With Pat Shaw having three runners and another three horses making their Singapore debuts, the tote is going to be a terrific guide in this race. Shaw has two last start winners in THE GENERAL and ROYAL RULER and both look more than up to this company. Obviously they are in form and both love the Poly and should figure in the finish. However, it may be his other runner in PACHELBEL’S CANON who grows a leg in this company back on the Poly. The former Argentinean has shown his best form on this surface and with a 2kg claim from gate 1, he could win. GHOST and INDIAN JADE both look solid each-way options and again, keep an eye on the tote for the likes of newcomer L’APPRENTI SORCIER.

1 PACHELBEL’S CANON *** Back on the Poly in suitable company suggests he gives this a shake. 6.00
2 INDIAN JADE ** Always an each-way show in races like this. 12
3 GHOST *** In form and always a winning show on the Poly. 4.00
4 L’APPRENTI SORCIER ** Former Australian who should get support on the back on some good local trials. 8.00
5 THE GENERAL *** Showed last start why the Poly is his caper and this looks suitable to win again. 3.40
6 ROYAL RULER *** Another Shaw runner who loves the Poly and can continue his good run of form. 4.00
7 FORTUNIQUE * Former French galloper who would need support given local trial form. 50
8 BIGDINERO ** Enjoys the Poly and can include in exotics in a race with plenty of unknowns. 20
9 ARC CARA ** Former UK galloper who has looked solid at the trials with market watch in order. 20

Race 6

Selections; 5 SUPER EIGHT – 10 CASSIS OOLONG – 8 STATE TROOPER – 7 BROWNE’S ANATOMY
Not many races are more “ugly’ than this for punters and while we can make a case for a few of the runners, it is a dead-set raffle. SUPER EIGHT has won once previously so that is a plus and given he had excuses last start and did look due on form prior to that, he gets his chance with gate 4 a bonus. Likewise CASSIS OOLONG appreciates a good gate (1) and while his recent form is just fair, this race suits and he could be in this a long way. You have to respect the only last start winner in the race in STATE TROOPER and he probably starts favourite and wins without surprising while BUZET and BROWNE’S ANATOMY are both in the mix on best form. CONFACET not the worst if he gets a start.

1 BULLISH LUCK ** Starts costly but goes OK when things go his way with tongue tie added for this. 8.00
2 HACKER * Gets winkers but hard to have. 50
3 FOLLOW THE KING ** Wins on his day but had issues last start and have to take on trust with blinkers removed. 12
4 KAISER BRIGHT ** Better on turf over longer but this race is weak and worth a look on Poly effort two starts back. 8.00
5 SUPER EIGHT *** All sorts of excuses last start so forget and can win on best form. 4.00
6 GANNA * No. 50
7 BROWNE’S ANATOMY *** Form good enough to win back on his preferred surface. 5.00
8 STATE TROOPER *** Winning form is good form and will look the winner in the straight. 3.50
9 SECONDWAVE * Mixing his form and wide gate doesn’t help. 33
10 CASSIS OOLONG *** Long time between drinks but this race suits as does gate 1. 12
11 LOYALTY’S ANGEL * Can run a cheeky race but easier to ignore. 50
12 BUZET *** Back trip after poor run but expect solid run late at odds. 20
13 GOLD PIN * Not for me. 100
14 CONFACET *** Excuses last start and will break his maiden status in a race like this. 6.00

Race 7

Selections; 4 AIR FORCE ONE – 1 ROCKFAST – 6 REMEMBER ME – 2 FELAROF
This race is interesting in the fact that the E Course may favour on-pace runners and while a horse like ROCKFAST looks the obvious choice on paper, he might have a job to do passing AIR FORCE ONE late. Yes, he did win well when beating AIR FORCE ONE by 1.5 lengths last start over this trip but happy to think a 1.5kg swing at the weights coupled with the track bias could see a reversal in results. Keeping AIR FORCE ONE company out front will be REMEMBER ME who looks in good enough form to be in the thick of this finish and hopefully at each-way odds. FELAROF is the other horse that looks very well placed to show his best while two promising 3YO stayer’s in SPECIAL FORCE and GOLAZO – both last start winners – are well worth following.

1 ROCKFAST *** Won very well similar affair last start and hard to hold out again. 3.00
2 FELAROF *** In solid form and step up to 2000m looks a good move. 5.00
3 PRECIOUS GEM ** Not a mile off Rockfast this trip last start and appreciates senior hoop. 20
4 AIR FORCE ONE *** Will lead and hard to run down on a course that suits. 3.50
5 FUJIN BRIGHT * Battles away but needs to find a yard or two. 33
6 REMEMBER ME *** Another on pace runner in form and could look the winner late. 8.00
7 SPECIAL FORCE *** Promising 3YO who showed this trip is his caper last start and pay to follow. 12
8 GOLAZO ** Another progressive 3YO stayer who can go through the grades. 12
9 SUNNY ** Tough stayer who keeps them all honest late. 20
10 SMART IDEA * Another that battles away but a win would surprise in this field. 33
11 TANGIBLE ASSETS * Needed Class 5 to win and that looks his caper these days. 33

Race 8

Selections; 5 AWESOME – 10 CAIRO – 1 GATO NEGRO – 3 SURE WIN
With a couple of the fancies – including three last start winners – all drawn wide, race tactics will play a big part in this Poly dash. Case in point is CAIRO who won very well when resuming with heavy support last start but he did get to jump from gate 1 on that occasion. Can Oscar Chavez get him to a handy position or even lead from gate 13 is the question punters would like to know. A horse he could follow over is AWESOME who has drawn gate 9. The 3YO is two-from-two on the Poly and a return to his winning surface could see a result. GATO NEGRO is in form and gets to jump from 3, which is in his favour, while it will pay to keep RICH FORTUNE, SURE WIN, MASTERMIND and even THE COSMOS with no weight safe.

1 GATO NEGRO *** In form and this race is suitable. 12
2 RICH FORTUNE *** Well beaten when supported last start but worth another look on good Poly record. 8.00
3 SURE WIN *** Resuming after long break (bled) but recent trials suggest he can show his best. 8.00
4 HIGH TROJA ** Resuming after returning not striding when close enough first-up but should need longer. 33
5 AWESOME *** Not far away last start with support and gets back onto winning surface. Big show. 4.00
6 MASTERMIND *** Drawn a tad awkwardly but hard to fault form of late and must respect. 6.00
7 WONDERFUL KNIGHT ** Has pace and could include in skinny end of exotics. 20
8 HARD STUFF * OK on his day but just fair of late. 33
9 KEEN DRAGON ** This is tougher than last start but always a show on the Poly. 10
10 CAIRO *** Drawn wide but won well with heavy support when resuming and can win again. 4.00
11 CASH BOX * Easier to ignore on recent form. 50
12 EURO ZONE ** Resuming after bleeding attack and recent trial suggests he will be in the mix at each-way odds. 15
13 THE COSMOS *** Lack of winning form a concern but hard to fault his efforts and may appreciate a lighter weight. 6.00
14 EFFORTLESS ** In solid Class 4 form and has to be included somewhere with blinkers downgraded to visor. 12

Race 9

Selections; 4 SAND BANK – 7 SILENT ARROW – 1 DUTY FIRST – 8 MIGHTY KENNY
Nothing jumps of the page in the last from Singapore and as such there might be some value about to send value hunters home happy. SAND BANK did it tough last start and happy to think G Boss will use that experience to get the best out of the 4YO in a race that suits. SILENT ARROW also had excuses last start and just missed this trip two back so should be in the mix at odds although both horses will need to be handy enough in running to have a say in the finish. With one eye on the tote, DUTY FIRST, BRAHMS AND LISZT, ROYAL EASTER and MIGHTY KENNY on some good trial form can all win in what is an open affair.

1 DUTY FIRST *** Blinkers off after a good run of Poly form and could be in this a long way. 6.00
2 BRAHMS AND LISZT *** Showed last start at long odds why he is always an each-way hope in Class 4. 6.00
3 KAI POWER * Gets blinkers and will work into this late at odds if race run to suit swoopers. 33
4 SAND BANK *** Did it tough last start and happy to think this is the type of race he can win on recent form. 4.00
5 PRATT STREET ** Not a mile away last start but like to see him back that up before considering. 20
6 ROYAL EASTER *** Thereabouts as a rule and expect a forward showing with winkers added. 12
7 SILENT ARROW *** Excuses last start and just missed similar affair two back so can win this. 4.00
8 MIGHTY KENNY *** Disappointing with support of late but trialling very well and could show up with gate 1 a factor. 5.00
9 MILITARY ALLIANCE * Reassess over longer and easier. 50
10 RACER KING * Can never discount but should need easier and best form is on the Poly. 20
11 WINNING STAR * Another that needs longer and easier. 50
