SA Jockey Academy graduate and past dual national champion apprentice Rachel Venniker carried the South African flag with pride when she booted Cliffs Of Fury home to win the final leg of the International Jockey Challenge at King Abdulaziz racecourse in Riyadh on Friday.

Trained by Naser Fawaz, Cliffs Of Fury was given a peach of a ride to win the 2100m contest by a head and beat Prefontaine.

The race was worth the equivalent of over R7,7 million.

France’s Maryline Eon was the winner of the challenge.

The fifth renewal of the two-day festival concludes on Saturday with the running of the richly endowed Saudi Cup.

Off time of the first is 15h00.
