Cape Racing – ‘Spectators Not Allowed’

An update after Sunday's family meeting

In a media release published on Monday evening, Cape Racing advise that the NHA has agreed that the horseracing industry follow the capacities as per the updated government guidelines announced by President Ramaphosa on Sunday evening.

Venues are now allowed to accommodate 250 people inside and 500 outside, with a maximum capacity of 50% for all events.

Spectators for sport are still not allowed, so all racing guests will need to be housed inside the various venues in the buildings at the courses.

As per the NHA regulations, the racing operators are still limited to owners and their guests on course.

Cape Racing advise that with the move to Durbanville, they are restricted by numbers due to the size of the venue, and bookings will be confirmed on a first booked, first served basis.

There is the upstairs area where they can accommodate 80 people, with an overflow area on the ground floor.

Racing returns to Kenilworth on 20 October where Cape Racing will be able to accommodate greater numbers in the various venues and suites.

They undertake to communicate in advance with regards the way forward for all venues.

They have plans in the pipeline to significantly improve the on course experience from that date.

All bookings:

Please note: strict covid protocols still apply. Any person not wearing a face mask will not be allowed entry. Face masks must be worn except when eating and drinking and social distancing to be strictly observed at all times.

In closing, Cape Racing state that they are glad to be moving in the right direction with regards welcoming everyone back on course, and look forward to a busy, successful summer season with all.
