Cape Town is King! Great news for the hard-pressed Western Cape owners and trainers
Good news for Western Cape owners and trainers is the announcement that bonus stakes maiden races have been introduced in the region.
This was announced recently by Phumelela Racing Executive Patrick Davis and follows the establishment of the Western Cape chapter of the Racing Association.
The RA bonus of R20 000 will be paid to Racing Association Members if the owners of the winners of the designated races are fully paid up RA members.
In the case of partnerships, all members of the partnership must be RA members to qualify for the full R20 000. In the event of a partnership where even only one member of the partnership is not an RA member, only 50% of the bonus will be paid.
This also applies to a husband and wife partnership, where both need to be RA members to qualify for the full bonus.
These bonuses apply only to RA members and not Western Cape Racing Club members.

As such those Western Cape Racing Club members who are owners will need to join the RA before they qualify. This has to be done at least a week before the RA Bonus races are run.
However, due to the fact that the RA offices are only re-opening on 7 January, Western Cape members have from 7 January to 11 January to join the RA to qualify for the bonus race on Sat 12 January.
For the other bonus races on 19 January and 26 January, Western Cape members will have to join the RA at least 7 days prior to those respective race meetings to qualify.
