The Windrush mare Hurricane Katrina won the R130 000 Listed East Cape Breeders Stakes for the second year running at Fairview on Friday. The 6yo mare has lost none of her zest for racing, and registered the second stakes win of her career in grand style.

The 1200m race was delayed a week after the previous Friday meeting had been switched from Fairview to Arlington due to issues with the going.

The Snaith Racing Team are on fire and were to celebrate a glorious weekend of seven winners, which has taken them to 189  and within touching distance of the magical double century mark. With two weeks of the season left, anything looks attainable

Starting at 5 to 1 in the eighteen horse field, the six year old grey mare was the class horse and easily the highest rated runner.

Quietly ridden by Wayne Agrella, she turned on the jets at the 300m marker and kicked well.

Hurricane Katrina ran on strongly to win by two lengths in a time of 71,42 secs.

The Mike Bass trained longshot Splendid Sun produced a good effort at her opening PE start, to run second, while the favourite Stormy Coast may have found it too short and ran on well for third.

Hurricane Katrina was bred by J Marley and is by Windrush out of the Thunder Cat mare, Katrina.

Hurricane Katrina has had 35 starts and is a winner of 10 races with 11 places for stake earnings of R558 225.

It is likely that she will be off to stud soon and will make a terrific broodmare with her heart and lovely attitude.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
