Mixed Reactions

Phumelela's Moodley 'excited' by pool and response to new QuickMix bet

Excited. Phumelela Betting Executive Vee Moodley is thrilled with the initial response to the new bet

Phumelela Betting Executive Vee Moodley reacted today to reports of teething problems accompanying the launch of the new QuickMix Jackpot bet yesterday.

News first broke on Tellytrack late on Saturday afternoon when presenter Shaheen Shaw advised caution after the person who had taking his first QuickMix bet had returned with mystery trifecta bets, apparently called  Pickerings.

The Jackpot QuickMix is identical to the existing Jackpot, but with a couple of variations.

Instead of the Jackpot comprising consecutive races from one race meeting, the Jackpot QuickMix races are  sourced from different race meetings.

The first leg will always be the last race of a South African race meeting and the other legs will generally comprise races from selected international meetings.

The other variation is that TAB will seek to include races that enable the bet to be completed in as short a timeframe as possible.

Saturday’s inaugural bet was run over the ninth race at Kenilworth, the tenth race at the Vaal, the seventh race at Ascot and the third race at Toulouse.

It attracted a pool of just under R120 000 and paid a dividend of R17 000

There will be only one Jackpot QuickMix on a day and initially the bet will be offered on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Any carryovers will be accumulated into a weekly Mega Jackpot QuickMix pool held on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Jackpot QuickMix TAB sheets are available in all TABs and at www.tabonline.co.za

General consensus gauged from comments of posters on the africanbettingclan.com indicate that the bet was received with mixed reaction.

Some of the comments:

1. I like this bet… especially the shorter duration. Also there is so much more information available on overseas racing…. BUT any Quickmix which includes French racing or ANY Harness racing will not see one penny of mine

2. I  was at the VAAL yesterday……………. NO ONE on 2nd floor ( tote staff ) new how to load this bet.

I went down to 1st floor to take this bet. TRAINING ? WHAT TRAINING ?

3. The typical attention to detail was the TAB-online contribution:

I went to check out the format of JACKPOT MIX:

It showed four fields without course or race number,so if you hadn’t seen the promo it could have taken ages to find what it was all about…………..that is the problem with local racing…………….there are passionate well -meaning people with some good ideas, but they are backed up by moronic management.

Vee Moodley said that he was very excited by the interest generated by the new bet and assured customers that teething problems would be addressed and rectified:

“ We will be having pools over the weekends from Friday to Sunday and depending on the demand we will have a Quickmix daily from the middle of December onwards. As for the operators,I also received some negative feedback, but am very surprised as the necessary instructions on how to process the bets was communicated to all staff involved.”

Moodley gave the public an assurance that this issue would be addressed by close of business today.
