Ol’ Blue Eyes – A 59 Time Winner

Sporting Post reader Jay August highlighted some eye-openers regarding record-breaking horses in a comment on the Greatest SA Racehorse Of All Time editorial.

He has drawn our attention to the story of Prodigal – he is pictured above – that is worth reading.

It is doubtful that many South Africans have ever heard of a horse called Prodigal, but they should have. Apart from his rare blue eyes he also holds a record for a South African bred horse.

No other thoroughbred racehorse bred in South Africa has ever won more races than Prodigal, and no horse ever to race in Mauritius has won more races in that country.

He won 59 races, 3 in South Africa and 56 in Mauritius.
