We Go maintained his 100 per cent record on the All-Weather with a smooth success in the €30,000 Prix Anabaa on Polytrack at Chantilly on Tuesday, the last of three Fast-Track Qualifiers in France of this season’s All-Weather Championships.
Trained by Henri-Alex Pantall and ridden by Pierre-Charles Boudot, We Go is now guaranteed a free start in the £150,000 Betway All-Weather Sprint Championship over six furlongs at Lingfield Park on Finals Day, Good Friday, April 10.
The Stephane Wattel-trained City Light backed up his Prix Anabaa success with victory on Finals Day in 2018 and subsequently finished a short-head second in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot.
We Go, a four-year-old son of No Nay Never, captured a conditions race at Deauville in November and returned from a short break to land a similar contest at Cagnes-sur-Mer on February 2, winning both All-Weather contests in good style. He is also a two-time winner on turf.
Tuesday’s line up featured Gr1 Prix Maurice de Gheest fourth Spinning Memories (Pascal Bary/Christophe Soumillon) and Godolphin’s Syrtis (Andre Fabre/Mickael Barzalona), who was trying a new discipline having finished second in three Gr3 races over longer distances.
We Go raced in third in the early stages as a good pace was set by Bakoel Koffie (Maurzio Delcher-Sanchez/Tony Piccone) and Tour To Paris (Pia Brandt/Maxime Guyon), with the main protagonists content to race in rear.
We Go manoeuvred between Bakoel Koffie on the rail and the weakening Tour To Paris passing the two-furlong marker, and quickened into the lead soon afterwards. The 18/5 chance held a clear advantage entering the final furlong and kept on well to score by a length and a half from the staying-on Syrtis. Spinning Memories, the 2/1 favourite, was a disappointing sixth.
Henri-Alex Pantall won the Prix Anabaa in 2019 with Forza Capitano, who went on to finish seventh behind Kachy in the Betway All-Weather Sprint Championship on Good Friday.
