‘A Perfect Destination’

If a horse could speak...they'd book at Precentor Place

The call for all industry service providers to play their role in offering some relief in tough times has been heeded by a leading KZN Spelling and Pre-Training establishment.

Situated in the heart of Drummond, Precentor Place is horsey heaven personified and has offered a professional service since opening their gates 35 years ago.

Mom and daughter team, Sue and Jodi Pieters have been hard at work throughout the Covid-19 crisis.

“Horse people are resilient by their very nature and we will get through the present challenges,” muses Sue as she tells the Sporting Post that they have adapted well to the challenges and protocols presented by the global crisis.

“We are keeping horses fit and in work so that when racing gets the green light to go ahead, they can move back into training without any delays,” adds the experienced horsewoman, who says that Covid-19 precautions were put in place from the first day of lockdown.

“These include the continuous washing of hands, sanitising of all equipment and the wearing of masks. We are fortunate to have a loyal and experienced team that have lived on the farm for more than 20 years and they have safely gone about the daily routine during the lockdown period to ensure pre-training could continue running smoothly,” she says proudly.

Summerveld and veterinary care is around the corner

Jodi points out the reassuring aspect of them being fifteen minutes away from Summerveld.

“We all love and care for our horses and it’s vital that there is convenient access to Veterinary practices if needed.”

The references from some of Precentor’s clientele speaks volumes.

Leading Bloodstock Consultant Andy William said: “I have been with Sue at Precentor Place for nearly 30 years.  I have tried other farms on the insistence of clients of mine, but after seeing the results that Sue and everyone connected to the farm achieve, they will not go anywhere else.  All the trainers that get my horses from her always comment about what a great job she does.”

Mike Azzie – happy client

Gauteng based Gr1-winning trainer Michael Azzie was equally effusive about the Precentor experience.

“I have been training for 45 years. I can honestly recommend Precentor Place for a place for your horses, both to begin their experience before entering a training yard, and even just to let down and have a break and recharge as sometimes horses just need these breaks. Precentor Place offers all of this and more. As well as the friendly and professional services of Sue and Jodi Pieters,” said the Azzman.

One of the leading younger lights of the industry, Justin Vermaak said that every year he and his clients use Precentor Place for pre-training and spelling horses.

“It is the perfect destination for yearlings after the sales to get broken in and do ground work before going into the racing yards. The team do a great job and they arrive ready for work and well mannered.”

With the industry in crisis and many trainers and owners in limbo, Precentor Place is offering special rates during this time and Jodi can be contacted on 071 171 7502 or email [email protected] for more information.
