Piere Strydom gets Springs Of Carmel to put her best foot forward late (Pic – JC Photos)
Paul Peter got the delayed Champions Day feature menu off to a flyer when a vintage Piere Strydom ride saw Springs Of Carmel get the better of her more fancied stablemate Miracle Flight in a thrilling finish to the R150 000 Pospack Gr2 SA Fillies Nursery at Turffontein on Saturday.
A smart winner of the Listed Ruffian Stakes back in March, Springs Of Carmel (29-10) produced smart acceleration to nab stablemate Miracle Flight (5-2) late to win going away by three quarters in a time of 68,48 secs.
Mike and Adam Azzie’s debut winner Rapid Fire (33-10) was not disgraced in third, a further quarter length back.
Owned by Johnny Peter, the winner was purchased off the 2019 Cape Yearling Sale for R80 000. She was bought by the Riverton Grooms Co-Op and pinhooked to that sale.
Springs Of Carmel was bred by Klawervlei Stud and is by up-and-coming sire and Equus Champion Sprinter of 2015, Captain Of All (Captain Al) out of the speedy five-time winning Dynasty mare, House Of Lorraine.
She has won 3 races from 4 starts for stakes of R238 900.
