Together with horse racing enthusiasts, Pierre Strydom (Striker), arguably South Africa’s best jockey, won his 5000th, 5001st and 5002nd races on South African soil at the Vaal Racecourse on Thursday, 14 May 2015 and celebrated, together with his partner, in style at Emerald Resort & Casino’s Sports Bar.

Phumelela executives, Emerald Resort & Casino’s management and guests, Teletrack representatives, race enthusiasts, jockeys, horse racing trainers, owners and media, all invited to the opening of a TAB betting station at the Sports Bar, congratulated Striker on his accomplishment.

“We were delighted to have Pierre and many of the top names in the horse racing industry join us at Sports Bar,” says Martin Rice, CEO at Emerald Resort & Casino. “It is an unbelievable achievement and it’s particularly fitting that he achieved this milestone here in the Vaal.”

Strydom has won a total of 5074 races in his extraordinary career with 72 of these being won overseas. In combination with this he has won a total of six championships since the 2000/2001 racing season.

“We look forward to celebrating again when he reaches 6000, and hopefully Striker will join us at Sports Bar again,” says Tanuja Gangabishun, Marketing Executive at Emerald Resort & Casino.

Sports Bar is a unique smoking venue where guests can experience live action sport on state of the art video and audio, combined with gaming on six slot machines. The venue now also offers betting across multiple sport platforms with TAB, including rugby and soccer. This action bar is fully licensed and offers a varied selection of food.
