Time Running Out For SA Racing

MOD & Betfred - neither are the answer

It’s with great fear that I have sat back over the last 3 months slowly waiting for the numbers to increase in those ‘interested’ in what SABOAT.org was planning.

Joao da Mata writes in the Sporting Post Mailbag that unfortunately the momentum was slowed with the announcement of the RA pumping money into stakes and then of course the Famous 5, on behalf of MOD, working tirelessly behind closed doors to ‘save horse racing’.

The reality is now unfolding right before our very eyes.

I really don’t care how many rands you have, but someone with pounds has about 22 times more.

As owners and trainers we now have to decide what we want.

Do we want to nail our colours to the mast of the famous 5 and have faith that their underestimating of Betfred was just an oversight – or do we nail our colours to the Betfred mast?

I will tell you that neither is frankly an option.

Ladies and Gentlemen, cowboys and crooks, it’s time to forget egos and stand together.

I’m begging you to sign up to SABOAT.org.

Once we get the critical numbers we can appoint our leaders and then make sure that we are in control of our sport. No more hidden agendas, no more meetings behind closed doors.

I have lived in the UK for 20 odd years and I’m telling you that Betfred are not the solution. We will rue the day they take over.

However, neither are MOD, in my opinion.

We are running out of time.
