The press release issued by the Gauteng, KZN and Western Cape bookmaker associations on 9 September 2014, containing details of notices issued to a number of regulatory bodies and including a legal opinion asserting that certain totalisator bets offered by Phumelela, Gold Circle and Kenilworth Racing are unlawful, refers.
Betting World is committed to contributing fairly and proportionally to the funding of the sport of horse-racing.
It has lawfully subscribed for the right to display Tellytrack in all of its retail outlets. In terms of the agreement between Phumelela and the Racing Association 30% of Betting World’s annual profits from betting on horse- racing are contributed directly to horse-racing prize monies. Betting World remains open to further exploring the fair and equitable redistribution of the cost of funding horse-racing between bets placed with bookmakers and bets placed with the Tote.
Betting World is a member of all 3 bookmaker associations.
Betting World was neither consulted on these matters nor invited to attend a meeting of any of the 3 associations at which these matters were discussed and the notices approved of by members.
Betting World distances itself from the notices issued by the 3 associations.
