Pettigrew Star Goes To 108

Jacaranda winner bumped to 97

The handicappers have considered the weekend features with Alula’s Star having had her merit rating raised from 102 to 108 following her success in the Gr 3 Sycamore Sprint (handicap) for fillies and mares over the straight 1160m course at Turffontein on Saturday 18 March.

The Handicappers were of the view that ultra-consistent 4th finisher EMERALD PRINCESS made for the best line horse, leaving her unchanged on a mark of 98.

There were also raises for 2nd placed KISS ME CAPTAIN, who goes up to 109 from 104, and for 3rd finisher COLD FACT, who is up from 101 to 104.

The only drop was for KAYLA’S CHAMP, who is down from 92 to 90.

Listed Jacaranda Handicap

BUREAU DES LEGENDE has had her rating elevated from 94 to 97 after winning the Listed Jacaranda Handicap for fillies and mares over 1800m at Turffontein on Saturday.

Here it was 3rd placed TERRA TIME who was used as the line horse, leaving her unchanged on a mark of 101.

In assessing the race this way 4th placed SISTER LIGHT (who was 2 pound or 1 kg under sufferance at the weights) also runs to her rating of 86, effectively making her a line horse as well.

Aside from the winner, the only other raise was for 2nd placed QUEEN OF SHADOWS, who carried 0.5 kg or 1 pound overweight and who goes up from 91 to 93.

Two horses were given a rating’s drop.  BOLD FORTUNE was dropped from 95 to 93, while ETERNAL LIFE goes from 94 to 93.
