Ramsden happy with performance of his yard

It was a good weekend for us. It was great to win the Listed Somerset 1200 with a smart horse in Kingvoldt.  It is also super stuff to have won 3 feature races in a row over 3 weekends. This is a special achievement and it is pleasing that the yard is firing on all cylinders.

I have been away for most of this time and it just shows what a great job the team does when I am out of the country.

This week’s feature winner, Kingvoldt, is a smashing horse and provided all goes well and he stays sound – this is a big factor for everyone even when working with the most special individuals – I am sure he will go on to bigger and better things.

By all accounts, Happy Forever is doing well in Johannesburg.

I am up there next week for the sales so it will be nice to see him and put the finishes touches to him before the big race.

Usually I have had a chance to look at the yearlings on the farms and have probably gone through a third of the catalogue by now.  Sadly, due to my own travelling, this has not been possible so I will have to head up to Johannesburg a few days earlier to get the groundwork done. Life is never dull.

Half our Durban string has arrived and have settled in nicely.  It won’t be long before we start having our first few runners up there.  They will just have a quiet few weeks to settle in before we have our first runners.

It is interesting to note that there have been quite a few Cape runners and winners there already and it looks to be a season where the Cape horses will be a force to be reckoned with.

It was a smashing weekend on the sporting front and the race for the Premiership title looks to be heading toward a thrilling end.

I am no Liverpool fan but they play fantastic football and I am a big fan of their manager.  I love the fact that when he came in he spotted that 50% of his expensive squad that had been put together by previous managers were absolutely useless and he promptly got rid of them.  He took no prisoners.

He is clearly a special man and even though it will be a great loss to my pocket if Manchester City lose the title race, I have to say that at the moment I am siding a little bit with Liverpool to the detriment of my own finances.

Chelsea also have the title in their grasp and their game in a few days time will be the title decider.  What a contest that will be.  It would be thrilling to get a ticket for that.

I stayed up late to watch Sunday night’s Masters and it is definitely a case of horses for courses with Bubba Watson showing the golfing world that his first win was no fluke. He played fantastic golf and clearly has an eye and ear for Augusta.

He was absolutely peerless and deserved to win his second Masters.

He is an incredibly down to earth man and promptly went off to celebrate his great win by taking his family out for waffles.  It is a bit like us these days with the kids.

In the old days, when we had a good winner, we would go off somewhere nice and have a nice meal.

Now we usually have our girls with us and end up at the Spur.

Sadly my earnings pale into insignificance when compared to Mr Watson’s but the celebratory waffles and ice-cream are the same.
