PE Gold Cup Runner-Up Disqualified

Result revised after positive finding

Pauline Herman captured this start at Fairview in July 2023

The placings for the Listed PE Gold Cup, run on 28 July at Fairview, have been amended after runner-up Heathcliff was found positive for a prohibited substance.

Trainer Alan Greeff was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.3 in that he was the trainer responsible for Heathcliff  when a specimen which was collected from this horse prior to the running of the sixth race on 28 July 2023 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Flunixin (Class 4) which is a prohibited substance.

Mr Greeff signed an Admission of Guilt and was fined R60 000,00.

In determining penalty, the Stewards reportedly took into account the status of the race, Heathcliff’s finishing position, the level of the substance and the trainer’s previous record with regards to contraventions of this rule.

In terms of Rule 72.3.2, Heathcliff was disqualified from the feature.

The new result of the Listed PE Gold Cup thus reads:

1-Top Quality

2-Wildest Dreams

3-Chewbaca

4- Jaeger Moon
