The Avontuur bred Palladium looks a colt with a very rosy future. Unbeaten in two starts, he could give Alesh Naidoo and his Fire Racing Trust a memorable July day – and looks decent value for a touch on the nose in the R600 000 Gr2 Golden Horseshoe.
The colt’s equivalent of the 2yo double feature looks a lot more wide open than the fairer sex leg and frankly looks close to a field leg for the Pick 6 – unless you are strong of heart and can sit on the edge of your seat while Palladium unwinds late.
That has been the story of Palladium’s first two victories.
The son of Silvano – out of the gloriously successful Minelli family – likes to be left alone and only gets going late.
He won the Gatecrasher Stakes relatively unfancied after his winning debut and got up on the post to nab Daffiq. He has drawn wide at 12, but while a drawback, that should not worry him too much in view of his drop in style of racing.
The options to find something to beat him are endless and very blurred.
Former PE galloper Oomph found a change of stables and ownership recently and made no show when 7,25 lengths behind Always In Charge in the Gold Medallion.
The son of Tiger Ridge deserves another chance and is bound to find the extra 200m to his liking.
De Kock Quartet
Mike De Kock has a decent two-way coupling in the race.
Daffiq and Raasmaal are scratched.
Misty Birnam attracted no bids at the Super Sale last Thursday but has won two from three – and is a course and distance winner.
Bold Rex is well drawn and the two-from-three winner stepped up smartly on the Vaal mile last time. Anthony Delpech will give him every chance.
Zodiac Ruler was a smart debut winner on the polytrack beating Mr O’Neill with a good late burst. He started at 14-1 and now gets the chance to prove his worth.
It is an open race.
We are rooting for Palladium to make it three from three. He can only get better with racing experience and has shown himself to be a decent colt with an electrifying turn of foot.
Include the De Kock runners in the PA.
