A senior statesman and the doyen of South African racehorse trainers, Ormond Ferraris, has reacted angrily to ‘mischievous’ rumour mongering and rejected with ‘utter contempt’ any suggestion that he was retiring.
The Sporting Post contacted the legendary much respected Gauteng-based horseman after an anonymous source suggested that he was retiring and his string would be taken over by internationally renowned champion jockey Weichong Marwing, who is the yard’s regular jockey.
“Who is spreading this nonsense. Have people got nothing better to do with themselves?” he asked before stating that there was not a sliver of truth in the suggestion and that he was still very much in business.
“Please print that so that we can set the record straight. What a lot of nonsense,” he said.
Ferraris has trained a host of top-class horses over a career spanning sixty years, including the Triple Tiara winner, Cherry On The Top.
His patrons have always been amongst the elite of the SA owner ranks.
