Oratorio Climbs The Rankings

Aga Khan's Eshera steps up again

Eshera

Avontuur’s world class stallion Oratorio, who impressed all who saw him at his recent stallion day, was represented by his 44th stakes winner in Ireland on Tuesday.

His progressive daughter Eshera, who recently broke her maiden by over seven lengths, scored a brave win in the Listed Platinum Stakes for owner-breeder the Aga Khan at Cork.

The Dermot Weld trained 3yo, who jumped as 5-4 favourite, was still green and showed her inexperience in the closing stages of the 1600m stakes race but fought on bravely nonetheless to prevail by a head over Wychwood Warrior and G3 Killavullan Stakes heroine Steip Amach.

Kris Weld, representing his father Dermot, commented after the race, “She is a big filly and is still growing. She still has to grow into her frame and is inexperienced. We’ll take our time with her.”

Eshera, who is out of the Dubai Destination mare Eytarna, has now won two of her three outings and maybe stepped up to Group 3 company next time out. Interestingly, Eshera hails from the same family as the Klawervlei owned broodmare Ebaraya.

Sire Oratorio, whose first South Africa sired yearlings will include siblings to such high class performers as Contador and Schiffer, is no stranger to siring high class fillies.

The champion son of Danehill’s previous top female performers include champion Banchee, dual Italian classic winner Cherry Collect, German Group 1 winner Temida, and four time Group winner Lolly For Dolly, to name but a few.

The Enchanting Currency Of Fate

It is eerie to think that there would have been no Siren’s Call, Sound Of Warning, or for that matter Call To Unite, had fate not decreed that Enchanted Cove follow her dam to South Africa, and that Peter de Beyer had the foresight to return Elusive Fort back home from the States as well!
