Biz The Nurse (Oratorio) wins the Gr2 Premio Federico Tesio at San Siro on Sunday

The Gr.2 Derby Italiano winner Biz The Nurse (Oratorio) continued his perfect season with a thrilling win in the Gr2 Premio Federico Tesio at San Siro in Italy on Sunday.

The three-year-old, who carried a two kgs penalty for his win in the Gr.1 Gran Premio Di Milano, found a very strong rival in the German raider Orsino (Mamool), the six-year old who had won the Federico Tesio in 2012.

Orsino set a solid pace in front and went clear 600 metres from home, but Cristian Demuro started to ask Biz The Nurse to improve from fifth place. Orsino was still three lengths clear entering in the final furlong but took a bad step 100 metres from home and Biz The Nurse found an extra kick to cause a photo finish. After a long wait for the result, the photo finish showed the nose of Biz The Nurse just a couple of centimetres in front of Orsino, while Wild Wolf (Rail Link) stayed on in third.

Trainer Stefano Botti breathed a sigh of relief after the the result was announced. “What a race,” he said. “I gave him no hope 300 metres out but Biz The Nurse is a very good horse and he found the energy to close and win. “He had a lot of things against him: the Gr.1 penalty, the lack of racing fitness and a good rival in Orsino. He was just 80% ready after a summer break and he was more relaxed than usual before the race. This win is a good step on the way to Gran Premio Del Jockey Club and I think that the extra furlong will suit him.”

Jockey Cristian Demuro added: “He is a pure 2400-metre horse and needs a strong pace. Today I was a further back than I wanted, but Biz The Nurse finished very fast.”

Biz The Nurse clocked the last 800 meters in 46.2s.

Biz The Nurse is the first foal and winner out of the Stakes winner Biz Bar (Tobougg), who has a two-year-old colt by Ivan Denisovich, a yearling colt by Arcano (bought by Bozzi Bloodstock for €110,000 at Arqana) and a colt foal by Roderic O’Connor.
