Olympic Return For Kotzen’s Erupt Filly

Pongracz Listed Olympic Duel Stakes

Woodhill warriors Glen Kotzen and Raymond Danielson threw the cat amongst the Pick 6 pigeons on World Sports Betting Cape Town Met day at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth on Saturday when the Erupt filly Ripple Effect stormed home to win the R200 000 Pongracz Listed Olympic Duel Stakes.

With the 18-10 favourite Winter Cloud failing to produce any kind of effort, the honours were there for the taking and it was the Avontuur- Zenzele partnership bred Ripple Effect who swooped late in a knockout blow for punters.

After two quiet runs in strong company, the former Highveld based Ripple Effect was easy to back at 50-1 and scored a landmark victory for new outfit Paardeberg Stud, near neighbours of the Kotzen family HQ in Paarl.

Originally a R200 000 purchase off the National Yearling Sale, Ripple Effect won 3 races and was stakes placed from her first six starts in Gauteng before being purchased by her new owners for R850 000 as topseller off the Fortune Racing Dispersal Sale back in June 2023.

It was discovered that she had a chip in the fetlock, and with two quiet Grade 2 appearances to her name, she found her prime form on Saturday and proved a great credit to the astute Glen Kotzen to beat Siddeley (20-1) going away in a time of 70,69 secs.

The runner-up’s stablemate Hunting Trip (10-1) was in third, with Shantastic (8-1) running another honest race only 1,60 lengths off the winner in fourth.

A daughter of Maine Chance Farms’ Dubawi stallion Erupt, the winner is out of the Quiet American mare Sea Of Calm and now boasts 4 wins with 2 places from 9 starts for stakes of R366 875.

Enjoy the replay!
