Bred by Anderson Farms, and trained by Mark Casse for owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Gary Barber, Gretzy the Great won the 1300m race in 1:13.83 on turf.

Offered as a yearling, but unsold, Gretzy the Great has had three starts for two wins and a second, all at Canada’s Woodbine track.

Nyquist won his first eight starts, including the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Gr1 Kentucky Derby, and stands at Darley Kentucky for $40,000. Gretzy the Great is named after Edmonton Oilers champion Wayne Gretzy, and will be aimed at the Gr1 Summer Stakes.
