Winning Form-sponsored Keagan de Melo registered an early double on the season feature finale day at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday when the Gauteng raider Gobsmacked proved a popular winner of the R200 000 Prosport International Gr2 The Debutante.
Trained by Johan Janse van Vuuren, the daughter of Querari led for much of the 1200m trip and proved too strong as she fended off challengers to win by 0,40 lengths in a time 71,14 secs.
The 18-10 showed a touch of class to hold off the fast-finishing Gimme A Shot (14-1) with Antigua Night (7-1) a further 0,80 lengths back in third.
Jockey Keagan de Melo expressed the opinion that Gobsmacked would prefer in time and she certainly looks worth following.
Raced in a partnership of Messrs J F & L M F Wernars & Mrs T J Wernars, the winner was bred by Maine Chance Farms (Pty) Ltd and is a daughter of Oasis Dream sire Querari (GER) out of the Shamardal mare Bold Nimph (AUS), an unraced half sister to 2yo stakes winner Sky Link and to the stakes placed Bluroute
Unbeaten in three starts, the winner has now earned a gross R225 000.
