No Dice! Son Of William Longsword Catches The Eye

Patience pays massive dividends for Dave Shawe

The William Longsword entire Dyce confirmed a scintillating comeback after his win in September following an eight month break, when he made short work of his seven opponents to win the R225 000 Listed Golden Loom Handicap at Turffontein on Saturday.

A 2yo Gr2 winner, the Dave Shawe-raced Dyce made it two wins from two starts this season over a 1000m which is clearly not his game.

“I had to get him racing. There were no other races. So I thought let’s try him – it will bring him on,” trainer Lucky Houdalakis said prior to the opening leg of a carryover Pick 6 that reached a commendable R6,111,658. The target was R5 million.

And Lucky needn’t have worried as Dyce, with his high head carriage, was given a perfectly balanced ride by Craig Zacley

Zackey was aboard at Dyce’s first two victories, including his sensational victory in the Gr2 Epol Umkhomazi Stakes at Hollywoodbets Greyville in his 2yo term.

Showing regal speed, Dyce (3-1) drew off to beat Captain Hindsight (7-1) by 2 lengths in a time of 56,95 secs.

The favourite I Am Giant (18-10) moved up dangerously, but was beaten a further two lengths back in third.

Bred by Dave Shawe’s Titanium Racing, Dyce was a first stakes winner for Cape Guineas winner William Longsword (Captain Al) and is out of the one-time winning Galileo mare, Beshaayir.

Dyce has won 5 races with 6 places from 11 starts for  stakes of R584 500.
