No April Fool If You Can Find The R6 Million Pick 6!

First leg is off at 13h30

While there has been relatively little fanfare, there is a Pick 6 carryover of R1 million into the Turffontein Pick 6 pool on Day 3 of The Championships on Saturday, with a projected R6 million the target for the popular exotic.

A ten-race programme is set for Turffontein with five feature races, including the Gr1 HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes, Gr1 WSB SA Derby, Gr2 Wilgerbosdrift Bridget Oppenheimer Oaks, Gr3 Europa Point Man O’ War Sprint and the Gr3 WSB Caradoc Gold Cup.

The first is due off at 11h50 and here’s a reminder to consider playing South Africa’s most popular horse racing competition, the Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge. The challenge produced two joint winners at Hollywoodbets Scottsville on Wednesday.

Cape racecaller Devon Pretorius and Durban novice punter Narsadu shared the spoils as each took home R280 000 in the Hollywoodbets Punters’ Challenge, which requires players to select one horse in each race at the designated racemeetings on the day, and is now available to play on all local race meetings, as well as Hong Kong and Singapore.

Under the new prize money formula the all-or-nothing prize to the player, or players, who correctly pick all the winners on any race day is now determined by the number of starters at the race meeting multiplied by R10 000.

At the time of writing on Friday evening, there are 103 starters left on the Turffontein card, meaning the basic all-or-nothing prize is R1 030 000.

As an added incentive, Hollywoodbets doubles the prize money for the all-or-nothing prize and the daily must-be-won cash is also doubled for those players who have had a bet on the Punters’ Challenge Bet Slip, to the value of R50 or more, prior to the running of the first race.

The Bet Slip is programmatically generated.  That means that any player taking up the minimum R50 Bet Slip invitation stands in line to enjoy a grand prize of R2 060 000.

Over and above the main goal of finding all the winners, as our two lucky winners did on Wednesday, daily prize money of R5 000 for each of the scheduled race meetings is shared by the top 20 players on the points leaderboard at the end of the day.

The winner is awarded R2 000, with the runner-up receiving R1 000, and the balance apportioned in terms of the published rules down to the 20th finisher.

For those wondering how to get involved, all that is needed is a Hollywoodbets account and the choice is yours to either select one horse in each of the races at the designated race meeting or opt to make use of the ‘quick-pick’ option and take a chance!  Read more here!

Shangani – stays well and is a big runner on Saturday (Pic – JC Photos)

On Saturday, Shangani from the Tony Peter stable takes his place in the Grade 3 WSB Caradoc Gold Cup. He was an easy winner in his season debut over 2400m on this course.

He set his own fractions up front, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. He would have come on from the outing. The son of Soft Falling Rain has no stamina issues and if not affected by the second run after a rest, he should notch up his ninth career victory.

We have already looked at the prospects of Cape raider Trip Of Fortune in the Gr1 HF Oppenheimer Horse Chestnut Stakes. He ran a good race when third in the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes last time.

He raced from just off the pace, moved up well but was outrun late. His victory in the Grade 2 WSB Green Point Stakes, three runs ago catches the eye.

He makes the trip up to the Highveld and if suited, he has the class to return to winning ways. According to early reports, there is likely to be rain on the afternoon.

Randall Simons is not riding.
