Already has 100 mares booked

Equus champion Sandringham Summit will not race again. In statement on Thursday 20 June 2024, Stallion Manager John Freeman said that the Sandringham Summit syndicate have decided to retire the top 3yo from racing to stand at Varsfontein this season.

The intended future successor to his Champion Sire Gimmethegreenlight will travel to the Cape as soon as movement can be arranged.

“Sandringham Summit is very syndicated and already has over 100 mares booked. There are a few nominations still available, but I am confident that his book will be full soon,” added Freeman.

Originally purchased for R1,7 million off the National Yearling Sale, Sandringham Summit was syndicated for stud in December last year and retires having won 5 of his 12 starts with 7 places and stakes of over R2,5 million.

As an Equus Champion Gr1 winning son of dual Champion Sire and current reigning Champion Sire Gimmethegreenlight out of Captain Al’s multiple group-placed winner of 5 races, Townsend, Sandringham Summit has all the credentials to go all the way.
