Unbeaten Zapatillas Goes To 104

Mr Flood upped to a 122

The National Horseracing Authority handicappers have published their weekend feature race merit rating assessments.

  • Listed Spring Spree Stakes

VASEEM has had his merit rating raised from 100 to 105 following his win in the Listed Spring Spree Stakes (handicap) over 1200m on the Turffontein inside track on Saturday.

The Handicappers were of the unanimous view that 3rd placed VISIWAY was the correct line horse to use here, which leaves him unchanged on a mark of 100.

The winner aside, the only other change was for 2nd placed MR FLOOD, who goes up from 119 to 122.

None of the runners in this race were given ratings drops.

  • Listed Sophomore Sprint

Undefeated ZAPATILLAS has seen his rating raised from 88 to 104 after he recorded a second win from as many outings in the Listed Sophomore Sprint for three-year-olds over 1200m at Kenilworth on Saturday.

The Handicappers felt it highly unlikely that 3rd placed CAPTAIN’S KNOT would have run below his rating by finishing where he did in a contest of this nature and therefore used him as the line horse, which leaves his rating unchanged on 96.

Runner-up SAFE RETURN has had his rating raised from 98 to 103, while 4th finisher XAVION goes up from 91 to 95.

There were increases also for FIFTY FIVER, who is up from 84 to 91, and for 6th placed MASKED VIGILANTE, who was raised slightly from 87 to 88 in order to make him rated equal to 7th finisher ON THE ROAD AGAIN.

The only drop was for YOU KNOW WHO, who is down from 87 to 85.
