Dylan Lerena Suspended

Waived right of appeal

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its offices in Johannesburg on Tuesday, 19 November 2019, Apprentice D R Lerena was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.3.

The particulars being that he as the rider of TWO GUNS, failed to ride this gelding out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stipendiary Stewards thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining third position, in the 7th Race run at Flamingo Park Racecourse on 11 November 2019.

Apprentice Lerena, assisted by the National Riding Master, Mr R Moore pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, in determining a suitable penalty, took into account all evidence that was led at the Inquiry as well as Mr Lerena’s record.  A penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of (14) fourteen days was imposed.

Apprentice Lerena waived his Right of Appeal and requested to take his suspension from 24 November 2019 to 7 December 2019 (both days inclusive).  The Inquiry Board acceded to this request.
