Whip Use – Murray Gets 7 Days

Waived right of appeal

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an inquiry held on Saturday 23 November 2019 at Turffontein Racecourse, Jockey Callan Murray was charged with a contravention of Rule 58.10.2 (read with Guideline M on the use of the crop).

This arose in that he, as the rider of VEEIPEE CLUB, struck this mare more than 12 times during Race 6 run at the Fairview Racecourse on 21 October 2019.

Jockey Murray pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, when determining a suitable penalty, took into account that this was Jockey Murray’s seventh contravention of this Rule, read with this Guideline, in the last five weeks and therefore imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of 7 days.

Jockey Murray waived his Right of Appeal and permission was granted for him to take his suspension from 1 December 2019 to 7 December 2019, both days inclusive.
