NHA: Z Nassif (Snr) & J Nassif (Jnr) – Improper Conduct

Turffontein Racecourse incident has sequel

National Horseracing AuthorityThe National Horseracing Authority (NHA) confirms that an Inquiry was heard in Johannesburg into an alleged incident involving Messrs Z Nassif, J Nassif (Owners), F E Botha, CWF Mienie (Security Guards), Mrs C van Bassen Jongbloet and Ms T van Bassen Jongbloet (Owner), in the Parade Ring, prior to the running of Race 7 at the Turffontein Racecourse on 20 February 2016.

Messrs Z Nassif & J Nassif were charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.25 in that they conducted themselves in an improper manner whilst on racecourse property on 20 February 2016.

 Mr Z Nassif (Snr) pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty of the charge.

 Mr J Nassif (Jnr) pleaded not guilty to the charge, but was found guilty of the charge.

 When considering the penalty, the Inquiry Board took into account the mitigating circumstances put forward by their legal representative. 

 The Board imposed a fine of fifteen thousand rand (R15.000) on Mr Z Nassif (Snr), of which seven thousand rand (R7.000) is suspended for a period of three years, on condition that during the period of suspension, he is not found guilty of a breach of the said Rule

 AND

Mr J Nassif (Jnr) was fined the sum of seven and a half thousand rand (R7500.00), of which two and a half thousand rand (R2500.00) is suspended for a period of three years, on condition that during the period of suspension, he is not found guilty of a breach of the said Rule.

 Mr Z Nassif (Snr) and Mr Nassif (Jnr) have the right of Appeal against the finding and penalty imposed.
