NHA: Zackey Guilty

The Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R20 000

National Horseracing AuthorityThe National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Head Office of The National Horseracing Authority on 14 October 2015, Trainer Mr T Zackey was charged with a contravention of Rule 73.2.3 in that he was the Trainer and the person responsible for the horse PENNINGTON SANDS, which ran in and was placed fourth in Race 4 run at Turffontein Racecourse on 27 August 2015.

A specimen (A52925) was taken from PENNINGTON SANDS prior to the running of Race 4 at Turffontein Racecourse on 27 August 2015, and this disclosed upon analysis the presence of Firocoxib which is a prohibited substance.

Mr Zackey pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Board considered the evidence put forward to it including the fact that Firocoxib is a Class 4 substance, that it was Mr Zackey’s first offence in respect of a prohibited substance, and that Mr Zackey was misled by the advice given to him on the excretion times for Firocoxib.  The Board imposed a penalty of a fine of R20 000.

Furthermore in terms of Rule 72.3.2, PENNINGTON SANDS is disqualified from the said race and the provisions of Rules 67.7.8 shall apply.
