Ill Treatment – Assistant Trainer Fined

Has right of appeal against finding and the penalty

National Horseracing AuthorityThe National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its offices in Johannesburg on 11 March 2020, Assistant Trainer Thabiso Nako was charged with a contravention of Rule 72.1.10.

This arose in that he ill-treated the horse PIDGEON ROCK by striking its hindquarter with an inappropriate object at Randjesfontein Training Centre on 30 January 2020.

Assistant Trainer Nako pleaded not guilty to the charge but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, when considering a penalty, took into account the mitigating circumstances that surrounded the incident, as well as Assistant Trainer Nako’s record and imposed a penalty of a fine of four thousand rand (R4000.00).

Assistant Trainer Nako has the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.
