The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at its Head Office on 7 October 2015, Jockey Mr R Simons was charged with a contravention of Rules 77.1 and 77.2.11, in that a urine specimen taken from him at Turffontein Racecourse on 16 May 2015 disclosed upon analysis the presence of Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide, which are banned substances in terms of the Rules of The National Horseracing Authority.
Mr Simons pleaded guilty to and was found guilty of the charge.
The Board considered all the evidence given by Mr Simons and also took his record into account and ruled that Mr Simons be suspended from riding in racemeetings for a period of fourteen (14) days.
Mr Simons has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.
