The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Appeal against the finding and penalty imposed by an Inquiry Board upon Jockey P Strydom on Wednesday 28 October 2015, was heard at the offices of the National Horseracing Authority on Monday 25 January 2016.

Background

The Inquiry Board charged Jockey Strydom with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2 in that he rode the horse ISPHAN in an unprofessional manner, by failing to ride this horse out with sufficient vigour between the 400m and 200m marks, in the 8th race run at the Vaal Racecourse on 15 September 2015 and imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of ten days.

The Appeal Board, after hearing the submissions of both parties unanimously ruled:

(1)                  That the finding and the penalty of the Inquiry Board be set aside; and

(2)                  In terms of Rule 85.5.8, that the prescribed appeal fee be refunded.
