The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an Appeal against the penalty imposed by an Inquiry Board upon Jockey Piere Strydom on Wednesday 9 September 2015, was heard at the offices of the National Horseracing Authority on Monday 7 December 2015.
This was reported on by us previously.
Background:
The Inquiry Board found that Jockey P Strydom, whilst riding the horse DUBLIN REBEL, failed to ride this horse out to the end of the 3rd race run at the Turffontein racecourse on 27 August 2015 thereby prejudicing his chances of obtaining first place and imposed a penalty of a suspension from riding in races for a period of ninety days of which forty days are wholly suspended for a period of two years provided that during the period of suspension, he is not convicted of a contravention of Rule 62.2.3 prejudicing his chances of finishing in first, second or third position.
The Appeal Board, after having heard the submissions put forward in this matter, both on behalf of the Appellant and on behalf of the Respondent, ruled unanimously as follows:
That the penalty of the Inquiry Board be set aside and is substituted as set out below:
(1) The Appeal Board imposed a penalty, suspending Jockey Strydom from riding in races for a period of twenty-five days; and
(2) In terms of Rule 85.5.8, the prescribed appeal fee be refunded.
